This was Isabella’s, my big alpha mare’s, first dressage show; she had a slight injury that prevented her from competing in Fort Worth two weeks prior. I have to admit that my only goal was to keep her in the ring and complete the test - Isabella is a very strong and opinionated girl!
Although her hormones have gone totally crazy and she has some soreness over her back and ovaries, all from being one month pregnant for the first time, Mi Querida continues to impress me with her kind demeanor and her willingness to listen. She is her mother’s daughter to be sure! (Belleza is her dam.)
My second show of the season began with another rocky start!
My first test of the day was 3-1, on Belleza, in an outdoor, very muddy, arena. (Which of course is fabulous on a gleaming white horse, with white breeches!)
Words cannot describe how much pride I feel at my “baby’s” accomplishments this past weekend!
My first show of the year, and only the second show I’ve ever ridden my horses myself. (I did ride in one class at 1st level over 2 years ago.)
On Saturday my first classes of the day would be riding Belleza at 3-1 and 3-3. I began my warm up, at a forward posting trot, which started out well (Belleza is such a show pro) and soon I was feeling relaxed and confident. I picked up the contact and began working on canter, transitions and sitting trot. It was then I realized I had a problem….my top hat was not fitting correctly.

Each stallion’s rooster is already filling up! If you’d like to breed your mare this season, sending in your deposit and signed contract insures that you’ll get preferential status in line.
